Yahoo! Finance Charts offers
access to stock price history data in tabular format in several
timeframes: Daily, Weekly, Monthly, and Dividends. These Historical
Quotes include notations for all splits and dividend distributions during
the date range covered. Open, high, low and close quotes are not adjusted
for splits or dividends. An additional column, Adjusted Close, is provided
which is the close price adjusted for all splits and dividends.
Metastock format
: Details
Equis refuse to release details about their file format. Any utility
which stores the data in Metastock format is vulnerable to unexpected
errors and irregularities. All this appears to be reverse engineering
of current Metastock data files. We would recommend to use qCenter
for data downloading and avoid such utilities.
Technical Analysis
of stocks
When it comes to investment, there is basically two approach. The fundamental
(base on what the company is doing, the quality of the management, the
projected earnings etc…) and the technical analysis (base on
the study of the historical price data). The technical analysis method
have a tendency to be mechanical/mathematical and attempts often to
eliminate subjectivity in the decision process of performing trades.
This is a very large subject beyond the scope of this short overview.
